Designed by Motion Automation Intelligence, this application is an automated machine vision inspection system for printed labels. Our team created this application to eliminate the need for human label inspection while improving overall production quality and efficiency.
The system performs automated Deep Learning based OCR/OCV, 1D/2D code reading, and Print Quality Inspection (PQI). The system’s operator can even train labels of varying sizes and printed text/graphics to generate their own recipe through the system’s training User Interface.

Deep Learning Label Inspection System Features
High-Resolution Linescan Imaging
Our deep learning label inspection system utilizes high-resolution linescan imaging to inspect pharmaceutical labels with high accuracy.
Deep Neural Network (DNN)
The system also implements a DNN to perform OCR on text as small as 5pt in size. The system’s OCR/OCV is agnostic to font size/style, character spacing, and even character size within the same string. This means that there is no need to train any characters yourself.
Reading and Grading Designated Code

PDF Print Files
The system uses PDF print files for each label as the “first article” template for that label. The PDF file is used as a golden template to define the regions of interest for various inspections to be performed on the label, like OCR/V and blemish tests. A recipe is trained based on the PDF and loaded before running the roll. Finally, our system fully handles the roll printing and inspection. Blank label stock is loaded, printed labels are dispensed, and rejected labels are rolled into the take-up roll.
